  1. I had an unneutered male cat in my yard when I moved in. he belonged to the “cat lady” next door…she had 5-6 of them. he was always fighting with the other males but extremely friendly to me and any workers that were there.

After i built the deck he’s be at my window & door meowing all the time.

Sadly, one night I was in the yard and he looked sick. A few days later I went to ask her where he was and she pointed to a shoe box on the floor. She had hum wrapped up in a silk scarf with fake jewelry on him but, with no yard, nowhere to bury him.

I offered my yard and then bought one of those concrete “sleeeping cat” stones for him

    R.I.P. Charlie.

She has since moved and I get no more visitors.

  2. I hate that because you are always left wondering. We have the two girls as permanent residents but we also have a bunch that come and go. Their mom for example will check in usually once a week. Wherever she’s residing now she’s doing good because she’s quite plump and healthy looking. We also have a big orange tom who is the dad to at least one of the girls and I suspect one of the ones we have inside. More recently we have a very petite grey and black spotted tabby. She (I’m guessing it’s a she) won’t come in yet but she’s very intrigued and I think will be joining the two girls soon. They’re already playing with each other out back.

  3. DIBS, it would still be 3 against one – ie when your arm candies occupy me with their strikes, holds, etc, I know you’ll sneak in your sucker punches. this boy knows enough that’s not good odds.

  4. We’re going to have to revamp the rules for our strays/ferals.

1- You must check in a minimum of every 24 hours. Any time longer than that will be an unexcused absence and may get your membership suspended until I forgive you (15 minutes).
2- You must remain within hollerin’ distance at all times. If I have to call out for you and make myself look bat-shit crazy then your ass better come over that fence.

Gem- When there’s a newcomer we start out putting the food in the yard, then at the bottom of the stoop steps, slowly moving it up until they eat in the back porch. This way we don’t have to go outside to feed them and we’re not leaving food outside for every tom, dick and harry a.k.a. possums, raccoons and mice to nosh on. It also gets them on a schedule of sorts, morning and evening.

Also, once we have their trust we trap them and get them neutered. That’s what really does it. Once their hormones are in check they’re personalities really come out and they get really affectionate. When they get neutered they also get basic shots including rabies so then we start hand feeding them treats in the hopes that they’ll get socialized to the point that we can get someone to adopt them. The two we have now like to nap on our laps and are super cuddly purr machines.

  5. Biff – I just commented, I think b/c 11217 and winelover are busy typing their rebuttals(sp)

THL – see, am jealous – I wish when we owned our house in PS, the backyard kitties would have warmed up to us – but they never did – how do you have the magic?
