  1. Oh but DIBS, it’s all about that outdoor space (sans pool – black women’s hair and chlorine are NOT friends!). I could live on that roof- in Greenwood Heights of course.

  2. Short answer: Bank street near Greenwich St, West Village – but I work in Brooklyn and the commute would kind of suck.

Long answer: Mostly these answers depend on what you want to come home to. I like PS b/c when I get out of work, I can hit a happy hour, go to a cafe, or run errands right away. I never spend any time in Manhattan, and I know several people who never come to Brooklyn and just have no idea about life here. I wonder, “What do they do when they get out of work, where do they go?” Very quickly living here the whole nightlife aspect you read about in all those free magazines everywhere gets very tiresome. Maybe ’cause I’m 36 and been there, done that, but I have yet to find too many places in Manhattan that I feel as at home in as the ones I’ve found in Brooklyn. The Red Lion is about it.

  3. Snappy that place makes me feel like I’m in one of those ultra swanky hotel suites in Vegas. Debauchery ensues!

Likewise, when I buy that limestone mansion I’ll invite everyone over for a rollerskating party before we move in the furniture. Heck, with the amount of furniture we own we can fill two rooms with furniture and hold weekly skate parties!

  4. this is really tough but i would stay in BK! i love battery park city, quiet and great school district but i also love Gramecy Park. i would probably choose Battery park b/c it’s close to BK and all of family is in BK. plus it’s not over crowded and very clean. parking sucks in manhattan if you don’t have a garage.

Now if i could live anywhere in BK it would be Carroll Gardens for Brownstone living or Ditmas Park for ‘house’ living.

  5. “Another reason to hate the ‘hood – a park that requires a key?”

Oh, I’ll grant you that. That is completely obnoxious.

I still love that neighborhood (I use to live to the east of gramercy). I like many of the restaurants on Park, Irving, 3rd, and 2nd, and it’s a convenient spot to live for shopping and transportation.

It’s also one of the quieter areas of Manhattan (which is still noisier than most areas of Brooklyn, of course).

  6. I would not live somewhere in Manhattan where I have to take the subway to work. It defeats the whole purpose of paying to live in Manhattan. That circus of a penthouse is out, Snappy.

  7. Of course stay away from Bleecker and west 4th in the West Village.
When I said West Village, I meant west of 7th Avenue, the name streets…can’t beat that quiet…chrip, chirp.

I also love the low teen streets as pointed out by Biff.

  8. DIBS, agree with you about the WV, if I had my druthers and buckets of cash it would be a very close 3rd after Cobble and Carroll. I’m not afraid of heights but I enjoy the scale of brownstone brooklyn vs trump like apts.
