Sorry What, I think my question to you (re: why Harlem) didn’t come across as intended (the problem with the Internet!) I didn’t mean to sound surprised. I think Harlem is a great choice, I was just asking what attracts you to it. Thanks for the response.

Mr. What, you disappoint me! I can see why you’d love Harlem these days, but I thought you were a true Brooklynite.
I could do exactly what Biff describes above. I really don’t want to. Instead, what I am trying to do is leave a “dreamy” area of Brooklyn for Ft. Greene. I just really like it there, that’s all.
This is not the main reason, but it’s important. When you walk the streets there, head down, closed up, the “elders” greet you and in their way, “demand” a greeting in return. This happened to me years ago everyday when I walked through Hamilton Heights. It was like they were saying, Mind your manners! and they were right, so I started walking with my head up and greeting people, and that reminded me of Jersey City in the 50s. Felt more like home to me.
Harlem is a great neighborhood Biff! The culture the location it’s just hot! Plus the UES is my favorite hood in Manhattan. I can walk or hop the train and be there in 5 mins. I have friend who moved to Harlem from Brooklyn and they get to work in no time. Most of them will not move back to Brooklyn, even if the rents drop.
I would stay in BK
I would hate living in the city – hate it hate it hate it(well except the west west village) – but that’s b/c it resembles brownstone brooklyn.
I feel that while prices may be lower for apts in NYC, they are poorly maintained and are such plain ugly.
It may well be that some condos wind up as cheap as an equivalent unit in some of the more expensive buildings in Brooklyn but a 1 or 2 family brownstone/brick/limestone in Manhattan would never come anywhere close to the prices in Brooklyn. I didn’t move to Brooklyn for a condo. I had a perfectly fine one in Manhattan.

I am, I am a true Brooklynite, LMMFAO! But with Harlem the grass is greener…

Someday this war is gonna end…

“What, I appreciate the honesty. Why Harlem?”

I would have a quandary between the West Village and prime Brooklyn Heights.
