Etson, from the British Vics I’ve seen in person, and the thousands more from magazines and movies all these years, I can’t argue with you, but then, as Dave said, you started the movement.
Since I can’t live in one of them, we have some decent examples here, like today’s HOTD, which I will love vicariously.
True, Denton, we have plumbing, but they have the original – Thomas Crapper!
Etson, If after you find a rental up there and find you need to store some of your stuff, you’re welcome to store some of that at my basemt storage area in my crown heights place till you find that studio in BK. I plan to keep that storage area for my own use after I rent out the aptmt so it’s no biggie if end up leaving the stuff there for a while.
Oh, just saw your response re the HOTD yesterday, Expert. Thanks! FWIW, someone in that thread said the house was in contract, so perhaps speed is of the essence.
Etson, by all means the Victorians are better in the UK. No question! Just do a google image search on “antique slate fireplace” and you’ll have all the evidence you need.
Oh, Montrose, if Amzi could get us in I would swoon. Thank you so much for asking him.
More4Less, based on the listing and what is known about it now, 300,000 is laughably high. That’s only if you want to take down every wall and replaster it. You can shore up the basement for $2,000 and redo the electrical for $15,000.
“That said I spent the weekend in my home town (Manchester, UK) and decided that it has as good or better Victorian architecture than NYC on the whole.”
One would hope since that’s where the “movement” started and was named after some broad named Victoria.
snappy, bullseye!

“HOTD while lovely is just too much for me, suffocating.”
Agree. Something about it is irking me.
Going to HOTD to thrash it. Who wants to join me?
