…so anyway
this is technically, a site about architecture so I’ll give my report from Vegas an architectural angle.
I’m staying at a new resort called the Aria, it’s part of a larger complex called City Center which is a real attempt at bringing serious architectural muscle to LV which is known more for it’s plastic reproduction than for reality.
The city center brings together architects like Cesar Pelli (from Petronus Towers fame) and Daniel Liebskind (from Ground Zero fame) along with other internationally known names, each with their own contribution to the sprawling site which sits between the Bellagio and the Monte Carlo.
The result, I must say, is impressive. At every angle you have a stunning mixture of the International style with a more grounded feel for shape and texture. Think the Seagram’s building combined with the sculpture of Isamu Noguchi. There’s even a Henry Moore sculpture behind the giant reception desk. It does give reference to the Vegas of old however with beautiful water and light shows and a subtle but stunning veneer of curved glass over most of the structures.
There’s even a monorail system which links the center with other sites. It runs smoothly and without a sound or human conductor.
A Park Slope pooch was left shivering in the buff after a coldhearted mugger stole his coat just days before a raging winter storm bore down on the city.
Donna McPherson, 42, says she tied up Lexie, her 10-year-old Westie, in front of Ace Supermarket “for two minutes” so she could buy milk.
When she returned, his $25 green wool coat with leather trim and belt was gone.
Fortunately, she said, Lexie wasn’t wearing his pricier Burberry.
“How could anyone steal a coat off someone’s back in the freezing cold?” McPherson railed to The Post. “I asked him, ‘Where’s your coat?’ like he could answer me. I looked all over and could not find it.”
pet peeve of mine: people who do not say thank you when you hold the door open for them.
bigger pet peeve of mine: those same people who you hold the door open for them, then do not hold the door open for the person behind them and the door winds up slamming them in the face.

Bigger pet peeve of mine…you let people OUT before you barge IN.
rob, whenever I hold the door open and someone with an obvious bitchy face (male or female) doesn’t say thank you I automatically say “You’re welcome.”

Try it some time.
Yes, Kens, the corruption IS rampant. That’s one of the key hurdles in France & germany not wanting to bail them out.
Legion, I lurve Vegas. I go once a year. Hit up the playboy club in the Palms and play some tables. Which hotel are you staying in?
