I hate these union vs capitalist discussions, because, like many contentious topics, the excesses on both sides soon become the only examples used to prove a point. Yeah, many famous union power abuses are not right, and need to be stopped. And stories could be told all day of individuals in unions who are lazy, overpaid, dishonest etc. But we could also talk all day about the abuses of power by businesses, and the lazy, overpaid and dishonest people that make up that side of the story. And they need to be reigned in as much as the unions.
What’s really needed, and will probably never be forthcoming, is a truly neutral third party which could reach into both sides and remove all of the bad stuff. I guess those are called benevolent dictators, and we don’t need them either.
So, let’s vilify dave! We can all agree on that, right? ;^)

You’d be very surprised what I will make this year in any sort of compensation!!!! I’m living largely off of capital. What I make (or lose) trading my P.A. doesn’t count.
Patterson just came out and said that New York State’s budget gap next year will be $750MM, or 10%, wider than projected two weeks ago because Wall Street’s cash bonuses are less than forecast.

If city workers got bonuses it would close the gap.
No, bxgrl. I haven’t been able to muster up the courage to ask the architect if there’s anything new. his office is on Stuyvesant and he’s a nice guy but I really don’t have it in me to make his day any worse by asking, yet.
I haven’t seen any activity but I leave early and get home late.
Montrose,
Nicely said.
Umm… if anyone wants to give me a couple million dollars, I’d gladly accept being vilified for a little while.

M4L, I can see raising two children on 45K in the city — BUT what did they do for health insurance and doctors?

Thanks dave, I’ll ask him. I take back my attempt to vilify you 🙂

If anyone would know, Amzi would.
