  1. Let’s shift topics.

What does everyone think of Sarah Palin demanding Rahm Emanuel’s resignation because he used “retarded” as a derogatory term?

That’s it for me today. Yes, I do have to work! (I’m actually in California, again).

  2. Just an an example: I work a non-union hotel concierge job right now. We get paid around $10 less an hour than our union counterparts and get two 20 minute breaks (sometimes there’s only time for one) on a 12 hour shift. All the people I work with who have kids can’t afford the company medical plan, which the company doesn’t contribute to. They have to PURPOSELY work LESS hours in order to qualify for Medicaid.

Non-union shops pass the burden of benefits ONTO the tax payers. The state welfare system is basically subsidizing the shareholders of these corporations.

I lost a more lucrative job in finance a little over a year ago and since working here I’ve begun to know just what it means to be a “worker.” Workers don’t want handouts, just an honest days pay for an honest days work. In this race to the bottom that’s going on today unions are needed more than ever.

    What’s for lunch?

grrrrrrrr. a whole hour’s worth of pay!

i always get lazy and forget to pack my lunch, or just am stupid and forget to put it in my purse before i leave for work. so today i went to the deli around the corner and was going to buy a sandwich but said no, spend less.. so i bought a 2 dollar bag of pita chips.. which was essentially ALL AIR and like 10 small chips. then i went to the salad bar and put a dollop (a DOLLOP!) of cottage cheese in one of those plastic things… i go to get rung up and it came to a total of 4.61!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2.60 for a DOLLOP of a f’ing cottage cheese? that is SO messed up. i know it’s soho, but it’s still so messed up

    *rob*

  4. I was just discussing real estate and the asvantages of buying with a coworker. While showing him a listing in Prospect Heights and extolling it, I was discussing the financial advantages and then he let slip he lives WAY beyond his means. He said he couldn’t afford this place, when I know he makes more than me and that I could afford it.
