“He also dressed down the Supreme Court, which was missing Thomas and Alito last night, two of authors of that recent abominable decision this past week.”
Alito was missing?
Wasn’t Alito mouthing his disagreement w/ the President’s criticism?
First of all, CarGar, I agree with Arkady, Slopey, DeLepp and others who say find out more and go for it. It’s always better to leave on your own terms, than be shown the door, if only emotionally.
I thought Obama’s speech was great. For a number of people, there is nothing on this earth he could do to please them, so expecting praise or even grudging admittance that it was a good speech, is too much for them. I’d love to know what all the armchair geniuses would do in the same situation. Not saying he hasn’t made some mistakes, HE said he made some mistakes, something his predecessor never admitted, but the country goes on. He became president with 2 wars, a huge deficit, and the country of the verge of economic collapse. A year later, we’re almost out of one war, and the economy didn’t collapse. In the meantime, the world went on doing whatever it wanted, nature went berserk, and politicians went insane. Of course we still have a huge deficit, and unemployment is still too high, as I know better than anyone, and much in the world still sucks. We are still better off than we would have been with McCain, who has done nothing to better the situation but be a sidewalk superintendent. People complain there is no bipartisanship, but that is not Obama’s fault. THere is no “loyal opposition”, there’s just a party of complaining losers who have not offered a single constructive comment in the last year. “No, won’t work” is the only thing they can come up with. I thought Obama was absolutely correct in dressing both parties down last night. He also spelled out the problems, and offered solutions, as well as hope. It’s up to the other legislative branches to hold up their end, and represent the needs of the people instead of their own egos and re-election attempts. He also dressed down the Supreme Court, which was missing Thomas and Alito last night, two of authors of that recent abominable decision this past week allowing big business to run government. I thought Obama struck the right tone, and did it well.
He also came out to cancel Don’t ask, don’t tell, and allow gays to freely defend their country, as they have been doing since there was a country. We should have no more second class citizenship in America. It’s an important first step. The military looked like they had eaten lemons, but they better get over it. It was a stupid policy that should never have been enacted, and caused some of our best military personnel out of the service when we need(ed) them most.
Rob, Michelle is off-limits. She is the best first lady this country has had in generations. She inspires young people, especially girls, and is a model mother, businesswoman and leader. I don’t care if she wears a burlap sack, or her butt sticks out. What does that have to do with her affectiveness as a leader, a role model, or in her job as First Lady? She is an amazing woman.
I’ve chased off young punks that tried to mug me, believe it, Rob.
“Fat” & “Skinny” approached me on the corner of 3rd Av. & Pacific. ‘fat asked me what time it was. Which was a dumb ruse because the Williamsburg Savings Bank is RIGHT THERE. ‘Fat’ grabbed my arm, and tried to grab my bag. I started yelling at them and asking them where they lived and where their mothers were. I yanked the one kids hand off my bag, and ‘Skinny’ was already trying to run away. They ran so fast. I was yelling for a block after them, “I’m going to follow you home, I’m going to find your mother!”.
I was a little shaken afterwards, but I’d do it again.

See, you’re making the same mistake those kids made, Rob. You see a nicely dressed middle-aged white lady. And you think: SUCKER.
But you’re wrong. You forget that I grew up in Brooklyn in the 70s. I’m very street savvy, and aware.
LOL cobble. that was me and my friend you scared off!!! we were just trying to get enough cash to buy something at the flea 🙁
*rob*
Cobble, you are so awesome.
CGar, what is the chance your boss will move on or you’ll be in a new department?
Joe, the car service got me home in 20 mins. $9! I gave him $14.
Rob, I could tell you a thing or two but next time I see you.
