  1. Gem, I am also sorry about your sister-in-law’s aunt. It really is an epic disaster that Haiti will never fully recover from. My prayers go out to your family and the people of Haiti.

Hurricane Katrina, here in the good ol’ USA, still can claim its share of victims, as thousands of people still do not have permanent housing, and New Orleans and the surrounding areas have not been adequitely rebuilt after all this time. Haiti, if they are lucky, will take a generation. I only hope that this disaster enables all new buildings to be built with quality materials and with higher standards.

  2. “hope your little bon mots of inappropriate “humor” are your way of coping with things that are too big to deal with straight on”

MM, I can’t speak for *rob*, but this happens to be my coping mechanism. In fairly quick succession, I lost my father, grandmother, grandfather, 28-year-old brother-in-law, aunt, other grandmother, stepgrandmother, stepfather, great aunt, and my mother. And the midst of it all, LICH almost killed me by giving me meds to which I was allergic. If it wasn’t for my morbid sense of humor, I would’ve lept into an open grave myself. Not surprisingly, I lost a lot of weight at some point, and when people asked, I told them I was on the “Dead Parent Diet”. When we learned that my mother’s just discovered cancer was Stage 4 terminal, my mother, to my uncle’s dismay, announced that we were going to “sit shiva while the guest of honor was here to enjoy it”. This gave me a lot of perspective, and, as a result, I try not to take things too seriously, especially things that are beyond my control.

I’m not sure what *rob* said about Haiti that was so terrible. That he associates Haiti with voodoo? Big deal. I feel like there’s gotten to be a knee-jerk reaction that no matter what *rob* posts, some people are automatically going to oppose him and chastise him. Why is it so difficult for people to simply ignore posters they don’t like — and I don’t limit this to *rob*. I like benson, I thought his late night OT posts last night were very funny, and I wish he’d come back to the OT. I think benson and bxgrl are equal opportunity instigators, and I like them both very much, but if I don’t like what they’re debating, I simply don’t read it. It’s not that difficult to skip posts.

So, please, no one presume to speak for me — and here I am speaking only for myself — and tell *rob*, or anyone else for that matter, what they can or can’t post.

  3. “Cobble, I saw that, thanks. I just find it hard to believe that those smaller organizations are not corrupt. I much rather stick with the more known names.”

    Hi Kens
The important thing to note with Wyclef and many of his Haitian peers is their complete disgust with the corruption that has plagued their country for decades. They too don’t want to see relief money fall into the hands of politicians and I beleive as I know him, he is doing everyhing to make sure money donated goes to the right people.
Yele.org is a legit organization that he started.
    But,
Please donate anything you can to any organization that you feel is the right one for you
