  1. I also wasn’t saying you always get what you pay for, bxgrl.

All I’m saying is that by and large, doctors are a private business and a private business needs to get sufficient return on invested capital and will price its services thusly.

  2. sure doctors are an altruistic bunch by nature,
you’d have to be to give up your 20’s and half your 30’s just to practice.
    the problem is though,
the government is making it more and more apparent that
doctors will be doing the work of government whether they like it or not.
    that is, with every new mandate;
they become restricted as to who they can see,
they become restricted on what drugs can be prescribed,
they become restricted on what they can charge,
they become restricted on what procedures they can do,
    and all the while,
the student loans are still due , with interest
the rent is due with the standard increases
the malpractice insurance keeps going up, even without claims
the re-imbursements keep coming down as per medicare guidelines.

that’s the problem in a nutshell.

not to take anything away from fireman and policemen,
but they make a choice too,
they choose a 20 year career that ends by age 38 with an excellent lifetime pension.
the risk is there, for sure
but it is a calculated risk by and large.
most who take the risk, are rewarded well.

  3. I had a situation where my primary care physicain (part of a group practice) fdecided not to accept any insurance anymore.

I dropped him and moved to another MD in the practice. There was no diminution of service.

I don’t have insurance so that I can fill out all the paperwork and follow up all the submissions for higher out of network costs.
