Etson, in Texas, Governor is largely a ceremonial position. All the power is with the Texas State Legislature.
Legion, I think Bush’s tax cuts were an abomination that exploded the deficit, and, the response to Saddam’s breaches of the cease-fire should have been to continue bombing him and keeping him as a caged animal, not invading the country under false pretenses. Even Poppy Bush got that right, and he didn’t even know how a price-scanner works!
I think bills get laden down with pork because each senator starts looking out for local interests(campaign contributors) and will hold out his vote until gets what he wants. They all are so provincial but we elect them.
(and this goes on at levels of gov’t and goes for both parties).
thanks for the article.
I have to say, I think that our discussions here are
quite civil by and large.
sure we take things too personally at times and sometimes go overboard in our defense of an issue.
Let me tell you, as a frequenter of discussions on AOL chatrooms, we are the equivalent of a Victorian drawing room here in terms of manners and etiquette.
Adam, you post was interesting but, snarkiness aside, this was really pathetic:
“Fourth, adult targets of online hostility deserve a national support network. This should be a safe place where they can congregate online to receive emotional support”
cobble,
as far as Bush’s experience in office, I think he set sensible economic policy from the start with his tax cuts after being handed a recession that started in March of that year. His response to 9/11, in retrospect, was appropriate in the months after as he set up a plan to go into Afghanistan where the threat first originated. We all know about the side line into Iraq, but to be fair, Iraq as shooting up the no fly zone and doing it’s damnest to suggest collusion with all America’s enemies. He was also violating a cease fire agreement from the Gulf War don’t forget.
But please, do you really go into a year by year review of Bush. when the problems are just as new and dangerous today?
long story short.. the first time my ex dumped me i was like whatever and wound up dating this new person. i was out at a bar with this new person and the next thing i know i get hit in the back of the head (hard!) i turn around and it’s my ex, who had dumped me like 4 months prior. he’s all like oh i have to talk to you and i was like i dont have anything to say to you (fuzzy memory here) but he convinced me he had something to say, dragged me outside behind a bunch of garbage cans and then forced me to give him oral sex! the person who i was dating at the time wound up coming out and was like what did he want? i was like oh that skank tried to get me to suck him off behind the trash cans. :-/ it was definitely not concentual. i should have pressed charges or something.
“What experience did Bush have that made him a much better leader”
Not wishing to defend everything his admin did, but Bush definitely had more relevant experience than Obama at the time each was elected. Bush had been a pretty decent governor of one of the largest and fastest growing states in the nation for six years when he became President.
