Pete….I love what people complain about in the small towns…reading those newspapers (I have them mailed to me in NYC) is great entertainment….especially the arrest reports.
what is a Rasmussen? is that some trendy new doll that is this xmas must have item?
I never rode bus or train to grammar, HS or college. Always walked. See what happened to me!
I know what Dave is talking about with sense of entitlement.
On website of upstate newspaper by weekend house…posting comments on article about increase school tax, this woman posts complaining about taxes (as everyone does of course) then says she called school about getting bus stop changed for her kids so she could see them getting picked up from her window.
I wanted to respond and call her lazy assed dolt and this is not a taxi service I’m paying for. Put your coat and walk the kids if such an issue to you.
cobble, I’m with you on the bus passes. I think they put out some scary scenarios to try to scare up some money.
Legion,
My take on the polls is that Obama has invested an awful lot of political capital, much more than most presidents do in first 11 months, with everything he took on. If those bets pay off (jobs rebound, signs of stability in Afghanistan, passage of health care), poll #s go back up, if not, it looks pretty grim.
Would someone please go chase legion down and smack him for me. Then ask him, what, precisely, if anything, would he have done differently to date. Thx.
I know the real estate taxes in those places (plus state grants to local school districts) help pay for the buses.
And maybe some sort of requirement that kids get the transportation to schools if live more than certain distance to school. But to me issue is that are we going to make city kids pay for transportation to school where other kids don’t. Great idea if think would get more people with kids to move out of city and cost of our schools would go down here!

I predict this will not happen. MTA will take too much heat for it. Some other equally heinous but more palatable solution will be found.

You did not! You lived in the suburbs and got chaufferred!! Liar, Liar!

Bus and train passes, are you kidding me? When I was a kid, I walked 20 miles back and forth to school, each way, in rain, snow and brutal sun alike!
…[opens door quietly and peeks in]
[lobs in word bomb and closes door]
President Obama’s approval rate now at 44%
lowest for any President in history at this point
in office.
