I don’t think the tax exempt status of a religious institution should depend on what it does or does not believe, (short of advocating violence or treason, which coule be dealt with by different laws and not teh tax code).
Have it for all or for none. And it’s the same exemption as non-religious non-profits have, so then if you wanted to abolish it, you would have to consider the motivations & objectives of other non-profits.
I’m pretty confident most religious institutions would show tax losses anyway even if they were not exempt.
“They have no business there and someone in a position to do so should have the balls to remove their tax exempt status…same for the groups who lobbied aggressively for Bush, or for Obama for that matter.”
THL, the problem with all the anti-gay marriage crap is that it’s all backed by TAX EXEMPT religious organizations sticking their noses into what is a civil matter.

Rabbis as well shouldn’t be allowed to stick their noses into civil, secular matters as well.
bxgrl,
I went to the Manhattan Declaration website when I saw your post, having not heard of it before. 1/3 of it is about marriage, but not just the gay marriage issue. It does oppose gay marriage, but as a whole it does not seem primarily to be about opposing gay rights. Much more about abortion, for example.
” Must have hit his unhelmeted head too many times while bikeriding.” So how does bxgrl know the CMU is circumcised when she is supposed to be cargar’s e-mate?
“What’s the Manhattan Project???”
They’re trying to get all the Hasidim to move to Manhattan.

OMG, DIBS and I agree on something! Hoo-ray! : P
“THL- couldn’t have said it better.”
Maybe you could have by not saying “…you’re trying to be claiming…”
Clearly that line could have used some grammatical tweaking.
