1. I assume the new guy gave you his name and an address for the check.
2. Look up your building on ACRIS. See whether a change of ownership (deed) or any new financing is recorded. Search for the new guy’s name on ACRIS and see what comes up.
3. Write the LL — the one you have a contract with — and cc the new guy, saying that there seems to be some confusion as to where to pay rent, and spell out neutrally what happened. Ask whether you are to continue to pay as before or pay the new guy, and what the new guy’s status is — new owner, agent, manager, etc.
4. Keep a contemporaneous journal of all your dealings on this issue until it is resolved or you move out.

Checked property shark, I see nothing in the free section anyways. I knew there was some stuff going on with the developer vs. the landlord/management company, and am assuming this is the shakeup from this. Supposedly the old landlord AND the new landlord are both preparing documents and/or planning to speak with us… but again, wtf: someone can just break the front door lock and then replace it??? Who does that?
