  1. BRG- you could do it the sneaky way- bring home adorable little kittens. I’ve done that- workse really well and the hubby will look on you with newly adoring eyes as he realizes yet again what a lovely, caring, bighearted wife he has (and MM may be able to assist you in this shortly

  2. I had to put my 19 year old “Mahster” to sleep 2 years ago. His name was Mookie. I rescued him the year before the Mets won the World Series. I was a wreck. I wasn’t much better this year when I had to put my 2 year old rescue kittie, Elfman, to sleep. They are really family members, and good companions, no matter how much I complain about them.

  3. thl- I am so sorry. I lost 3 cats within a month of each other. two who were 18 year old brothers within a week of each other. my very wonderful vet was a treasure (cobble Hill Animal Clinic) and although I was desperate to save them he was adamant that he would prolong medical treatment only for the animal’s sake, not mine. At 18 years, it would have been for me, not for them. And I still cry over them.

  4. Thanks everyone I appreciate it. I agree Dave. The tough bastard’s gotten to 17 without anything problem greater than a stubborn fur ball. The vet made some suggestions but we’re going to take our cue from him. He’ll let us know and then we fully intend to *do right by him* and let him go with dignity and honor.

To answer your question gemini, J-Kun was my husband’s ex-girlfriends cat. She moved back to Japan and left the cat with my husband. He then rescued Cookie. I met him, and married into the family. When we bought this house last year the listing agent didn’t tell us that the house came complete with a pregnant stray in the backyard. Lou (black and white) was one of her kittens who adopted us this summer the other two are Lou’s brother and sister who are living in our back porch (the gray and white boy and the tabby girl) I got them both fixed and am trying to find them a home since they’re both super cuddly.

  5. I waaaaant a cat, actually two, but mean ole’ grumpy hubby says NO!

Before I got married to the ‘animal hater’, I always had a cat. As kids we’d find strays and bring them home. We’d only have them for a week or a month before my mother gave them away. Once she let us keep a cat for 3 years and then it ‘disappeared’. We saw it at the corner grocery store. My mother had given it to them but told us it ran away. The last cat we found, we had for 16 years, surpisingly, that one grew on my mother’s affection otherwise he probably would have been some other store’s pet.

Towards the end of his life, he was so sick, he could barely walk, eat, sit, stand. But yet, I couldn’t put him down. Maybe, I shouldn’t have been so selfish.
