“so pretty much $2 or $3m umbrella should cover sounds like. Probably claim against me in auto accident wouldn’t go over that unless I did something outrageous like killing 3 kids while driving drunk.”
Probably even then. But it’s your level of assets that it depends on, and only you know that.
Here is what I meant about the medical insurance regulation. I believe the following reforms will go a LONG way to increasing competition amongst the private insurance providers, and hence make it affordable:
-allow different levels of coverage. I wouldn’t half-mind a mandate if it were for a bare-bones policy, as is done with auto insurance. Instead, the idiots in Washington are talking about a one-size-fits-all mandate.
-pricing should be in line with risk. If you smoke, your premium should be higher. If you are overweight, your premium should be higher, etc. Some companies have done this with their self-insured health benefits (Safeway, for instance) and have found that it incentivizes better health AND reduces premiums significantly.
-allow shopping for policies across state borders.
We gonna be sitting on the stoop handing out candy with my neighbors and a couple friends – whoever shows up. [And drinking wine out of plastic cups! Shhhh….]

-tort reform, of course.

Ok, fine, but I reserve the right to be randomly snarky to Randi.
so is there a real benefit of changing ownership of house to LLC? and would create other issues?
