  1. did anyone read about the hotel ludlow? my first apartment was on ludlow street til i got evicted.. these rents seem great for the street and area! tho honestly ludlow totally turned mega mardi gras on weekend nights, i couldnt even walk my dog without some drunk f-ck stumbling on us, but these rents for a new building sound amazing

The Hotel Ludlow, the 170-room luxury boutique inn that promised to “pay homage to its chic, authentic neighbors with modern and minimalist decor,” has been the Hotel Ludlow, the stalled 19-story eyesore, for many moons. In fact, the 180 Ludlow Street concrete shell has been one of the most visible symbols of the city’s wave of arrested development. But how about this for a blockbuster: The Hotel Ludlow is coming back! As rentals! LES blog The Lo-Down got the scoop at last night’s Community Board 3 subcommittee meeting, where lawyers for developer Serge Hoyda outlined the plan to convert the building to residential.

With the super-expensive rental tower The Ludlow located right next door, the Artist Formerly Known as Hotel Ludlow will be aiming for something more downmarket: 158 units, mostly studios and all rent stabilized, starting around $1,200-$1,300 per month. A rep said, “This is not a luxury building. This is a market-rate, no frills building. It’s not obscene and it’s not affordable. It’s somewhere in the middle.”

  2. denton – I think it’s doable depending on how up-to-date the software is on each computer. If it’s not pressing, why don’t you write Q&A at NYT – she’s really good at those kinds of problems & would tell you if you need some kind of program for compatibility.

  3. Can I ask all you Mac people a question? Really a cross-platform question.

I have 30 years of medium format negs (2-1/4″ x 2-3/4″). They’re too big for almost all film scanners and too small for most flatbed scanners. But lucky me, I have a friend in Argentina with a super-expensive Imacon scanner (made by Hasselblad). Because he owes me a lot of favors, he’s agreed to scan all my negs for me. Each scan will be approx 400mb.

The plan is for me to send him down a coupla 1tb external drives to put the scans on.

Here’s our quandary: He’s on a mac, I’m on a PC. If he formats the drive as a mac, will I be able to read these files on a PC?

  4. Kens, ROFL!

THL, go figure. I made the mistake of leaving her home when I was gone for 10 days, with her regular dog walkers coming in and out all day, and hanging with her while she ate, and letting her in and out of the garden, and making sure the TV was on for her, and I got back and she had shredded some baskets, chewed off moldings and scratched antique furniture, knocked over every pot in the garden, you name it. That’s when my sister remembered to tell me the dog prefers the kennel.

  5. Ohhh, LOVE boxers! I always want to kiss those mugs of theirs! Something about those faces that I can’t resist.

Yeah, no drool on a dog that size is a bonus. You’d assume slobber is part of the package but no.
