I can’t get down with the kindle. It doesn’t have that yummy book smell to it.
Magazines in the bathroom. This is a male only thing I think. I have never seen this in any woman’s bathroom. The only paper that should be kept in the bathroom is toilet and tissues.
I think only men read in the loo. Bill Bryson has one of the funniest passages on it in Small Island. It’s so hilarious I can’t read it out loud to people because I have to laugh so hard.
I don’t go much to the Strand these days, but when I was a kid I used to hang out in many of the places down on 4th Ave (Manhattan). Too bad they’re all gone. The internet has driven down the prices of used books dramatically. Unfortunately even with a book for a buck you still have to ship it.
“I would love a large library in my home, with wall to wall books, a large table with reading light, and some comfortable chairs, also with reading lights. Lots of woodwork, very clubby/Ivy League/Oxford looking.”
MM, that sounds like your dining rm could be that library. just swap out 1 of the dining chairs for a cushy reading chair
Arkady, I’ve checked Alibris from time to time. When my finances are better, they will hear from me, and I’ll also whittle my Amazon wish list down a few entries. Can’t right now, though.
Kens, if you can spare a little stipend, I’ll help you out. Email me.
Denton – AllBooks4Less is good too.

THL, the Strand on Fulton St is completely diff vibe vs the pompous attitude at the village location

I don’t know if you guys are familiar with http://www.addall.com/Used/
It aggregates books from all the websites (Biblio, Alibris, Abebooks, Amazon, and even the Strand). And you can search and sort in many ways.
Too many idiots selling used books on Amazon who have no idea how to describe them.
Hola THL!
