bxgrl – my dad had the means to help me out when I was in a rough spot and said no. i’m pretty certain that he loves me very much but he was always very insistent that I never be dependent on anyone. had a rough couple of years but got through it. so your insistence that money + love = “dad will help if you ask” is NOT true. stop pushing the point on that, it’s not cool. i do think that i’m a better person for getting through things on my own, and am proud of the fact that I don’t owe anyone, even my dad. and believe me, i was in a much worse off situation than the two ladies in the NYT article that spurred this whole discussion from yesterday.
Well, she was the governor. She had a career, and a happy family. Yes, she was unqualified, but the vitriol is not commensurate. It’s seems to be like it makes women question their own life choices.
No rob- I am just constantly amazed by the scope of it. 🙂

Lechacal- Palin is not a conservative. She’s a right wing extremist. There are plenty of conservatives and conservative ideas I agree with but it seems their voices are being drowned out by right wing extremists like Rush. Even more moderate republicaans are concerned yet they are still allowing it. remember the reaction when even Michael Steele disagreed with Rush?
I don’t spend my life divided into liberal or conservative. I don’t consider conservative to be a dirty word- unlike many people here, such as benson who use “liberal” like a curse word. But when it comes to extremists- left or right? Those I never assume own a brain cell between them. And that makes them so dangerous.
“And you never answered the question. If your daughter came to you and asked for help, would you turn her down? Answer that.”
From what little Benson has said of his daughter – she reminds me alot of myself in that my parents also have the means to hook me up with a condo – but I realize they have other more important things to worry about (retirement, medical bills, and their own rapidly depreciating home in the burbs) so I would never put them in that position – asking for ‘help’ by the way of a shiny condo with stainless steel appliances.
I associate ‘help’ with losing my job and needing assistance getting by for a few months while i straighten out my life, but not a half million dollars so i can live beyond my means.
DH and I had a similiar concersation a few days ago. I put it this way: I agree with almost nothing that Hillary Clinton and Dianne Feinstein have to propose, yet I see them as brihgt women who serve their country. Talking it further, I would say the same thing about Russ Feingold (whom I admire alot – a real mensch – even though I don’t agree with a single thing he has to say), Chuck Schumer, Joe Lieberman, Harry Reid and others.
My challenge for my friends on the left: please identify leading conservatives in the Senate or House whom you admire as serving their country. I didn’t say you have to agree with them, just admire them for their service.
No benson- you just like making pronouncements and you always back off when you get called on it. I take this to mean you’re a big proponent as “Do as I say, not as I do.” After bitching about the father and his girls, you know damn well you would do the same for your daughter and you don’t want to admit it. Typical of you.
