OK PLUSAs, with request from Slopefarm in regards to last weeks’ SATC thread. I am submitting the Brighton Beach version.
Just an FYI, I suck at writing. Enjoy.
Brighton Beach…..
It was a gorgeous sunny afternoon on Brighton Beach boardwalk. The light wind was carrying a scent of local Brighton Beach Avenue pelmeni scents all the way to the ocean mixed in with the scent of beer and vodka coming from the neighboring cafes right on the boardwalk.
The young kids were getting their daily exercise on the beach playing volleyball while the grandmas had a daily dose of discussing people sitting on the benches in front of the famous Brighton Beach nursing home that was the Park Avenue of Russian nursing home community. Word had it, you needed to bribe with the upwards of $50,000 to secure a spot there. Needless to say, inside the nursing home, titles such as Doctor and Lawyer for everyone’s kids and grandkids were thrown around more often than insults of recessed lighting on Brownstoner.
“Dora, look, isn’t that Masha granddaughter, valking right zere with her grapefhut? – Said Yudif with heavy Jewish accent.
“Oy Veyzmir, how many times do I have to tell you, it’s not grapefhut, it’s boyfhendâ€- Answered Sarah in an annoyed tone.
“I don’t care what you call him, I know Masha would turn in her grave if she saw her granddaughter with a goym†– annoyingly answered Yudif.
“For all you know, he might be a nice guy†– Sarah said in a raised tone.
This was the typical day on the boardwalk. Not a day passed by, where the Russian Jewish grandmas didn’t know someone’s business that lived within a 10 block radius. Some names might have not been known, but they could tear apart your whole life just by seeing you around Brighton beach.
oh guess what i found cruising around this weekend? a huge box of old video games (one very rare one that i can get like 100 bux for) and a Sun Jewel Barbie still in the box! i think im gonna be ghetto and give that to my sister as her birthday gift. maybe ill dye her clothes black and give her horns or something first.
Wonton, I suggested to Jon to have a regular thread with these write-ups on the various hoods
