WonTon – What you describe is exactly why I bought a house. Even people you might like under other circumstances lose their sense of proportion in co-ops. I, too, was on the board & still couldn’t talk sense into day-to-day operations: it’s what inured me to things such as the What’s rants. My bldg had 30 units so you may want to look even larger & more impersonal. What I’d really look out for is any change in the rule book that would focus on you & your putative lapses. Ask your lawyer if there’s any way to protect yourself.
g10, you want to switch jobs with me? I’m the “F1” button in the group. every time peers, boss, etc. can’t figure something out or they need to cover some of their work, they hit the F1 button for “HELP”. when it’s time for handing out some goodies, pads on the back,… I’m treated like the village idiot. My boss had the nerve to ask me recently why I’ve been in “coast” mode recently and that he expects me to carry the team (while he treats me as the village idiot). Econ stinks so I bite my tongue, bust out a huge smile, and said “yes sir, your majesty”

I almost fell off my chair. Sounds like they also need a history lesson. We’ve got 12 shareholders as well and two are never around either, I consider it better with less wear on fixtures and noise.

Wonton, sell then rent. there’s no need for you to move if you like the hood. that way, you can pocket the whole sales proceed (vs. just half) straight into the bank.
