Both Jesus and St Paul were specifically not political. Both advocate passivity in political matters. They focus on our relationship with God and how we treat each other on an individual level. The ancient Jews wanted Jesus to be a political leader but he was not. The epsitles often emphasize the Church as being distinct from ‘the world’.
I think it is disrespectful and inappropriate to force our own categories (‘liberal’, ‘social conservative’) etc on God. That goes for both right and left.
SO we got Religion and cats plus a little of sex convo in the OT versus the drugs and bad condos in willyburg thread. Let’s see which one which topic will prove to be the powerful one today.
benson, Jesus’ words are in the Bible for all to see. Do you think Jesus would be against equal access to health care? Do you remember what he said about rich people and the eye of the needle?
Jesus was a liberal. Sorry!
(I’m not religious, btw, I’m more down with the Marxian theory of religion and the poor, but it’s hard to square a lot of what gets said in His name with what is written in the New Testament.)
Benson – Given that “turn the other cheek” & “blessed are the meek” & other homilies of that ilk were the basis of the religion I don’t see how you can think she was wrong.

This commentary is just plain silly. I wonder if Jesus had a position on the appropriate level of co-pay?
Not even worth a counter-argument.
