christopher, i had a similar convo yesterday.
while the same media that giddily skewered him and played up his oddness now is celebrating him, i think its not so much ignoring the dark stuff/accusations (never found guilty if im correct), people right now are celebrating his works and influence.
Ugh, woke up this morning with a pimple. Then I turned on the boob tube and the biggest boob of them all was yammering on about MJ, Al Sharpton. Then I realized they day can only get better.
He changed music, but like most geniuses, he was certifiably unhinged and only got life half right, he died fast.
Brownstoner I will say this– GOD works in mysterious ways. Things have of way of working themselves out. If your OK with the usage of the “N Word” then I OK with it because I know Someday this war is gonna end. I got my “Answer” from you (If that is one) and thank you for replying. You behavior speaks volumes to The What.
Guys
yes I agree he was a strange soul who might have molested children and I am hoping to God he didn’t, but he made amazing music and was the one of the top 10 notable people of the 20th century – we can’t deny that.
“It annoys me to no end that Farrah Fawcett and Ed McMahon have been mostly ignored (Fawcett coverage is 2 pages on p12+13) and Michael Jackson takes the first 10 pages of the Daily News.”
My sentiments exactly! Thank you Christopher.
I can only hope he finds peace in death since he wasn’t able to while he was here.
DH, I must interject on that. Despite the fact that he hasn’t put out anything for a long time, he was and always will be relevant in the music world. Like him or not, his musical/performance genius cannot be denied and will not die along with him. That, I think, is a good thing. I loved him as a child, not so much as an adult, but again, the genius is ever present.

“Who’s Katerina Witt?”
A gorgeous and graceful figure skater who won two Olympic gold medals for East Germany (in 1984 in Sarajevo and in 1988 at the Calgary Olympics).

Don’t put him in the penalty box. He’s digging his grave on his own.

I’m most worried for his children.
