  1. bicycles are lovely in the country, or on Governor’s Island, or on quiet residential streets, but it is nutty to ride a bike at rush hour on crowded city streets where people are driving massive steel vehicles bumper to bumper and are driving them from a position nine feet above your helmet. Some of these truckers could run you over and think they hit a squirrel.
I know two people who have been killed, that’s killed, as in “kingdom come”, riding bikes in Manhattan. I dunno, it is one of those things like marathon running that seems to produce so many injuries and fatalities but is nevertheless considered “good for you”. Are we a masochistic society?

  2. Biff,

When I was in the insurance Biz there is a company named ALTA Health and they wanted to establish with us so they sent over a bunch of quote/packages and frankly, they were ridiculous.

So I got back on the phone with the rep who is an older Jewish man and we were going back and forth discussing it blah, blah, blah, he wouldn’t budge.

Finally I blurted, “ALTA, this is CACA.”

He totally got it. Laughed hysterical and got us better packages.

  3. Everyone, I have an actual question: My girlfriend and I are looking for an 8/1 rental in Fort Greene for $2000-2200. We really don’t want to pay a broker. Does anyone know how low I can negotiate a broker fee in this market? People can’t still be paying 15% when craigslist is full of no fee places. If anyone has experience in this matter, I would greatly appreciate your help.

  4. I wanted to use the phrase alter cocker before in response to Rob’s references to old people and had the darnedest time trying to Google it to find out how it is spelled.

(alter cocker is Yiddish and literally translates to “old shit”)
