BRG, how “south” are you going? I visit my in-laws in Virginia and N Carolina next month. nothing but strolling the malls with them. It’s time away from work but I wouldn’t call it a vacation
I appreciate all the tips everyone.
Hope you manage to get some hiking in, BRG. I generally enjoy visiting the south, but it’s usually to visit good friends and/or watch college football when I do.
Agree with Kens. It is hard to distinguish between the really good seafood restaurants and the crappy touristy ones. I can’t remember the names of the places we ate at. Some were good, some were bad.
Also, do the drive all around Ocean Avenue to the South to see some of the other beautiful homes not on Bellevue and some of the other streets you’ll tour. There are great views from there and the water is choppier. I love watching and hearing the sounds of birds and waves crashing into the rocks.
newport – that’s sounds like something the wife would like. when does that summer crowd rush begin? good to visit with a bouncing 2 yr boy? good as a weekend trip?
DIBS, tomorrow will be zzzzzzzzzzzzzz on this blog
“OMG, I want to get sooo bitchy about that Ice Cream Jingle thread. Are people real? Complaining about that? Obviously they didn’t grow up in Brooklyn. That jingle is the symbol of summer. It’s music to kids ears. Get over it people, and get some ice cream.”
No doubt BRG – I live a block away from McCarren and it’s no big deal. what a bunch of pussies!!
Etson, also this vineyard is 20 minute drive from Newport and was fun. There is a great seafood place 2 miles down the road from it and an awesome ice cream place where they make ice cream inhouse. If you decide to go, the people at the vineyards will point you in the right direction.
BTW, I wasn’t crazy about the touristy seafood places that we stumbled upon in Newport. I am sure there are good ones but the 2 we tried (most hyped ones – I don’t remember the names) were mediocre at best. Maybe read reviews beforehand or ask the locals.

Etson;
Have a good time with your mom! I’ve never been to Newport but will also be going this summer.
For this weekend I won’t be doing much as I have to depart for a business trip on Monday. Just going to my brother’s Joisey Shore house on Sunday.

To clarify, I don’t love hearing the sounds of birds crashing into rocks…re-write:
“I love watching and hearing the sounds of birds calling as well as the sounds of the waves crashing into the rocks.”

BRG…just don’t bring those firearms you buy at the Walmart across state lines.
