Etson, I noticed that the house Jackie O grew up in is not listed on the site I linked. That was nice to visit also, a bit modest compared to the McMansions built by the Asshats of the Gilded Age.
“It is hard to distinguish between the really good seafood restaurants and the crappy touristy ones”
Not really. The ones that look like a shanty with buoys and netting and a long line of overweight people with cameras, shorts, white sox and sandals should be avoided.
A good guidebook like Fodor’s will tell you whats goos and whats to be avoided.
M4L, the first time I went with Mrs. C, our first born Champette was right around 2 years old. We had a fabulous time. A weekend, including two days and two nights is definitely enough to see a good amount of the sites/mansions and well worth the trip.
Also, do the drive all around Ocean Avenue to the South to see some of the other beautiful homes not on Bellevue and some of the other streets you’ll tour. There are great views from there and the water is choppier. I love watching and hearing the sounds of birds and waves crashing into the rocks.

agree 100000000000%. One of the most beautiful scenic drives.
dh, I know…my goodness. We have become such a whiny society. Waaaaa, I hear noise.
Everytime I hear an ice cream truck I get so excited. It brings me back to my youth at the park, we’d stop playing, beg our mother for some money and then run to the truck.
swine flu is getting snarky in the ice cream truck thread. Finally 11217 lets his hair down!!! 🙂
Thanks Benson – hope you have a great weekend too.
“I visit my in-laws in Virginia and N Carolina next month”
I’ll be in one of those two states you mentioned. I’ll also be in the state of boredom and oblivion.
Why am I going????
“Asshats of the Gilded Age” Unlike me, the Asshat of the Platinum Age.
Yes, about the drive on Ocean Avenue…beautiful.
