    There is a reason that debtor’s prisons once existed. Repayment of debts is not just a business issue, an issue to be left to the nerds with calculators to calculate probability of default. There is a moral concept that exists in most societies that you should repay the money you borrow. Recall the 4 C’s of credit: Capacity, Capital, Conditions, and Character. This is why the effort to restructure mortgages is failing miserably in the United States; the homeowners are still not making the new, reduced payments. They never had the Character to pay in the first place.
