News from Grub Street is that Smashburger will open at 80 Dekalb on June 9th, the first of three planned for the area. If you’re keeping track of burger openings in the neighborhood, this comes about a month after the opening of Jake’s Wayback and Five Guys, but still beats Shake Shack to the punch.
Dumbo
Two record companies moved to Dumbo, to 20 Jay and 55 Washington. Dumbo NYC has all the details. Dumbo NYC also files a review for The Gallery Cafe, which replaced Choice Market on Jay Street in April. The word is pretty positive, what do Dumbo residents think of the spot?
Park Slope
A New Zealand inspired restaurant is coming to the old Lucas Fine Foods spot on Union, says Here’s Park Slope. It’ll be opened by a Top Chef alum around late August or early September. HPS also notes that Pizza Town is re-open after renovations, the Greek Restaurant on 7th is making progress, and Coleur Cafe is open for biz.
Elsewhere
Healthy, fresh bodegas coming to Bed Stuy, reports Gothamist. Racked writes that the Manhattan-based store Scoop is eying every hip neighborhood in Brooklyn. Vanishing New York writes about Zig Zag Records, the Sheepshead Bay establishment that closed in December and came briefly back to life for a Men in Black shoot. As VNY says, “Like the Birdbath Vesuvio or the fake storefront signage at the Chelsea Hotel or the ironic mom-and-pop facade at Urban Outfitters, as so much of the city becomes a ‘theme park of the past,’ what we will have left to remind us of what New York once was will be movie sets and miniature models.” Finally, the Brooklyn Paper reports that the circus is coming back to the waterfront barge in Red Hook, and this season it’s cheaper!
