odb-defaced-0309.jpgThe Ol’ Dirty Bastard mural at the corner of Putnam and Franklin Avenues (originally painted by Vic Goldfeld for a documentary) was already repainted once after first being defaced in 2007; now, according to Bed Stuy Banana, it’s been defaced again: His face and the “Bastard” part of his name were painted over recently. “Angry church lady?” wonders BSB. “Or just not a hip hop fan?” GMAP

Brownstoner here is your QOTD. You can use it to mask the real issue of Cover race/Class warfare.

” Most people interact freely and non judgementally with those not like themselves, and want nothing more than happy lives for themselves, their families, and those around them. They are not hypocrites, or gentrifiers with an ulterior mission.”

Well MM Be a large Black Man walking behind a Asshat and get back to me or better yet, when the next time some Retard post a nasty comment about Black people think about me, OK…

    The What (Oh Skittles)

SOmeday this war is gonna end…

  2. Well well.. This is a PWNING! Robert Downey vs. ODB Criminal Recored Dust-up.

Robert Downey Jr. did just as much dirt as ODB. One is making million dollar picture and the other one is dead. ODB need help real bad and the drugs will take a toll at sometime. I can’t see any difference between the two but race. If you look at the stats black men are most likely to be stopped, frisked, arrested and serve more time that their white counterparts, I’m not making this stuff up it’s all there in Black and white. The real Hypocrisy comes when the other side choses to ignore the facts and use their own assumptions …..

The What (He shoot and scores)

Someday this war is gonna end…

  3. I didn’t notice Sean Coombs doing anytime for his gun charge either.

As for your description, yes there are many folk like that- just as there are many folk who indulge in their own reverse racism. As long as you stereotype any group, you are just as guilty of racism as the KKK. There are no priorities in racism, and there is no justification for it. Do I think people find reasons for it- yes. Do I think some people have more understandable reasons for feeling as they do? Yes. Do I think that excuses it? No.

Re: Shirley Chisolm- I said, just the first- as in first of many. Have to start somewhere- she was groundbreaking, born in the area, a first in so many ways. This isn’t a comparison contest of who is most deserving- that’s ridiculous and self-defeating. Plaster as many 50 foot high heroes on buildings as you can-

So who do you think is “more deserving”, What?

  4. Montrose;

You’re on fire today! Well said! I can’t post much today, but just wanted to say that you hit it right on the nail, once again. Kudos also to Bxgrl and ENY for their posts.

  5. What, that description is as tired as the classic stereotypes about black people. Sure, there are people who are like that, just as there are people who match any stereotype, but that doesn’t mean most people fit a stereotye. Most people just want to live and let live. Most people interact freely and non judgementally with those not like themselves, and want nothing more than happy lives for themselves, their families, and those around them. They are not hypocrites, or gentrifiers with an ulterior mission. I’m so tired of the attitude that someone has taken something away from you, especially in Clinton Hill, and replaced it with something alien.

The good old days you want back were not that good, not for anyone. It wasn’t just gentrifiers or Pratt students dodging bullets, and stepping over junkies, you know. It was black and latino mothers and their children, senior citizens who were afraid to leave their homes, church ladies on Sunday, and plain old working folks trying to get to and from work without getting mugged, or seeing something that would haunt them for life. Yeah, there was also great beauty and creativity, and institutions that have since moved on and out, but no neighborhood stays in stasis forever. The black homeowners who sold to the gentrifiers did quite well, and you helped in that process, so it’s a little too late to start crying now that “they” took something from the rest of us.

How about being part of the solution to the real problems that face us, solutions to the inequalities that still remain, and they are plenty, instead of always complaining that someone stole your ‘hood? Treating others with at least respect would be a good first step.

  6. I’m sorry musicians continue to get ripped off by recording contracts and management. It’s been going on in one form or another since David starting singing in Saul’s court in the Bible. That doesn’t make it right, but you’d think the word would have gotten out by now – don’t sign anything without your personally chosen legal representation present.

In fact, instead of stupid lyrics, like above, with so many asterisks it looks like an art installation, due to the unecessary profanity, how about rappers and other pop stars putting out some public service announcements, or saying in interviews, “young aspiring artists, don’t do what I did, get legal representation when you start to make it big.” I’m sure record companies won’t be too happy about that, but why should they make money they are not entitled to, off the backs of the very people they need to survive?

Less attention to the bling, the lifestyle and the perks, and more attention paid towards lasting rewards. I’m not a big fan of their music, or some of their lifestyle choices, but I have to hand it to Jay Z, Puffy and even Fifty Cent, they invested and handled their monies quite well.
