The owner of Stocked, a new take-out/dine-in sandwich shop located at 635 Vanderbilt Avenue, got in touch to let us know they’ve been serving in the neighborhood for a few weeks now. Here’s what they’re offering: a breakfast menu with muffins, scones, and empanadas, a variety of sandwiches and salads, and prepared food like rotisserie chicken, mac and cheese, turkey meatloaf and salmon burgers. Sandwich choices include capicola  with provolone and broccoli rabe, roast beef with beets and horseradish, and roasted turkey with manchego and apple onion jam. They are open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 8 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 6 pm. So who’s checked it out? You can see more pictures of the space, and the menu, at the Stocked Facebook page.

  1. I did not say I want “cheap chicken.” I said their pricing was out of character with the neighborhood thus making their claims of community and localism questionable. I wish them luck (really).

  2. All true, but consider that the rotisserie chicken is more than double the price of local markets and more than any local restaurant that I’m aware of. Maya, just down the road from Stocked, charges $11.50 and includes rice, beans, and tortillas.

  3. It’s important to remember that while rents in the neighborhood increase steadily and significantly (we were forced out of our apartment when our landlord decided to raise the rent 25%, and she found new tenants in less than a week), rents for storefronts, particularly those on Vanderbilt, are increasing, as well. Quality ingredients are also expensive. I think it’s great that local chefs chose to open their shop close to home and serve the neighborhood they love.

  4. I was very excited when I heard about Stocked as a good healthy to-go dinner spot is needed in the area. However, I was really disappointed when I went there. Eighteen dollar rotisserie chickens? I want Prospect Heights to stay a racially and economically diverse neighborhood. I think diversity is a big part of what makes this place special. While I think it is fine to have restaurants for all price ranges, I don’t welcome places that pretend they are about community while pricing out most of our community. Please rethink your pricing policy so that this is not just a spot for the newer more wealthy people moving to the area.
