Smith Street has a new coffee place as of this morning. A tipster walked by the just-opened Ecopolis at 180 Smith Street, in the ground floor of the building we’ve been calling 311 Warren Street as it’s risen on the former vacant lot over the past couple of years. The coffee shop was opened by the building’s developers, who also have a non-profit based on the second floor; the upper floors are all residential. The new space has a light, modern vibe according to the tipster. Anyone stop in yet? How’s the coffee? GMAP

  1. BoerumHill, you’re right, I knew I was forgetting one (probably because it’s a bit beyond my usual stroll radius :). I too LOVE Building on Bond but I think their coffee is just terrible. I wish they would improve it! They’ve improved their food (which was always just OK) a lot in the last couple months, and their ambience has always been the best.

In my opinion best coffee in the neighborhood is hands-down Cafe Pedlar. Nice-looking place and friendly staff too.

  2. i feel like the huge explosion of coffee shops is nothing more than a high demand for wifi, all those internet scrubs and leeches who dont like to pay for their own service hahahah.

    *rob*

  3. You mean the site of the former beautiful garden that was destroyed to build this ugly building. Of course I’d rather see them do well at this point, so that it’s not another empty storefront.
