Smith Street has a new coffee place as of this morning. A tipster walked by the just-opened Ecopolis at 180 Smith Street, in the ground floor of the building we’ve been calling 311 Warren Street as it’s risen on the former vacant lot over the past couple of years. The coffee shop was opened by the building’s developers, who also have a non-profit based on the second floor; the upper floors are all residential. The new space has a light, modern vibe according to the tipster. Anyone stop in yet? How’s the coffee? GMAP
Thanks for the heads up icedcoffee on the City Bakery cookies. I love those cookies, massive sugar high.
My issue is that I’m always walking from Court St., so I go to Pedlar for my coffee on my way to the F train, not sure I’m willing to try mediocre coffee. But definitely cookies and any other grub they might have.
The space looks nice and bright.
Just tried this new place. Good cookie (from City Bakery) but mediocre coffee. But I’ll give them some time to work out the kinks. The counter seating is nice for people watching, but probably not for lingering. No wi-fi yet.
I work in cafes – and pay for internet at home. Sometimes you just need to see the sunshine (and other people!), so I appreciate having places nearby that have wi-fi. Glad to have another option besides Starbucks in the hood. Fall Cafe is ok for hanging out, but their coffee’s not so good.
Building on Bond changed their coffee. It’s locally roasted and delish.
there was also the Boerum Hill Food Company, that during the daytime was pretty much just a coffe shop / laptop kinda place. That’s been gone for about 2 years now.

Ditto.
I do miss the honeysuckle though, that grew in that garden before they built this building. You would come up the subway steps and smell it and all was right with the world. The smell of coffee isn’t quite as good, but I guess it could be worse!
In addition to Stabucks, there is a coffee place affiliated with the skateboard place, which is closer to Bergen. The Nut Box also sells coffee and pastries, though that is closer to the Bergen entrance as well. I think they have positioned themselves well, right near the Warren Street entrance so they get biz from those coming from the southern part of Smith, where there are not any coffee places. No one has time to wait at Pedlar when they have to go to work!
