It appears there will be a new bar on 20th Street and 6th ave in the same South Slope location that in the last year and a half has seen Bar B Q and Safe Haven go out of business. The bar will be right across the street from the classy Toby’s Pub and right next door to the restaurant Lot 2, which took the place of Kitchen Bar last summer. On the same block the brand new Lucali spin off Giuseppina’s is still in grand opening limbo and have their windows covered with the same newspapers clippings since November (did you hear the Yankees won the World Series?). Lying on a very secluded tree lined street with a gorgeous view of Green-Wood Cemetery, it seems only a matter of time before this little pocket is filled with upscale establishments; and possibly before the whole neighborhood becomes a second Park Slope. 1. the condos on 6th at 17th still suck as bad as they did when they were first built. They just don’t fit in on the (my) cozy and neighborly street, the scale is all wrong, and I have never even seen the people who live inside them.

  2. reading through the thread, I wanted to say “Lopez” as well for great baked goods and bread, and to say that Little Buddy was definitely open and selling those fantastic ginger chocolate cookies when i walked past this afternoon. Also, a new bar has opened on 5th Ave b/w 22nd and 23rd called 718 bar (it’s at 718 5th ave)

  3. I totally agree, So Slo feels a lot like Park Slope did. We just moved to So Slo from Center Slope and we are loving it here. Not sure if I need another bar though. I like South. Much as I love Eagle Provisions, we need a better grocery store here in So Slo…

  4. Denton, snark is just being his/her/it snarky self, while I was being insulting.

It has/does have potential and has a nice mix of folks, families and ethnic/economic mix.

    Slope #2, I hope…never. That’s why I keep visiting.

  5. last i looked, little buddy was shuttered — is it still open?

definitely check out laurentino’s if you like classic italian/italian-american style cookies and pastries.

  6. Doldrums:
B/c as far as I have been told Southside coffee was only serving…coffee – not really bakd goods etc
however I DID forget about Little Buddy which has amazing baked goods on 5th and 17th! – so that’s cool

Southbrooklyn – oh I will have to check those both out! – thanks!
