Moutarde Gets a Makeover, Reopens

Moutarde Out, Bistro In [Brownstoner] GMAP
Brooklyn Couch,
As explained by the restaurant manager, in the comments section of our previous Moutarde post:
“I also would like to clear up some confusion about the ‘double naming’ of your restaurant. “Le Bistro de la rue” will not stay on the walls of Moutarde, it was set to give a first hint to our dear patrons as to what the concept of the new Moutarde will be.”
Glad it’s back – have no idea how you ever found the food disgusting? I’ll just assume you hate everything as you didn’t actually post what you didn’t like about the place.
Food was always great, service quick – only gripe was the two seat tables were too close together but that seems to be the trend and I havent been in to see if that’s changed.
Anyway – welcome back and looking forward to coming over.
Moutarde is disgusting?: wow. whatever your beef is with the restaurant, that’s way over the top.
It seemed the entire north side of carroll st 5th-6th were there on Monday…almost a party atmosphere. This seems to be our neighborhood spot. I think the food is pretty much the same (hit or miss, middling to good). Prices are spread out more…more high end dishes but more middle level. Not sure if that will work. Service is pleasant as usual. I guess I’ll continue my once-a-month on the average visits.
One thing I HATE: asking ‘tap or bottled’! As one who’d happily ban bottled water everywhere, this is hard for me to accept. It’s so pretentious to boot, and does not fit in with the ‘bistro’ concept.
PS: kind of hate the script main signage….
I never found Moutarde to be disgusting – it was always a great stand-by when Al Di La wait stretched beyond half hour… Haven’t been to the new iteration, but am more than willing to give it a try.
Favorite French dish was at the *original* (just trying to keep up with all the asterisks) Moutarde – their scallops were perfect in every way.
For a great *to go* patisserie, try Almondine outpost in S. Slope – too bad they don’t bake their goods there. Colson is not too shabby either (yes, they are Belgian).
Savory choices: Belleville (LOVE their fondue).
Wait. Didn’t the sign on the street side actually say “Bistro De La Rue” in a post here a few weeks ago? What’s that about?
Particularly after living in France, the “Disney” element of this restaurant has always made me cringe a bit, and those elements seem to be even more extreme now. BUT if the food is good, and the Disney aspect attracts other people, and enough to keep the place profitable, I’ll take it.
Since diablorojo has stomped off taking his/her toys with him/her, anyone who likes the food here care to tell us what your favorite dish is? Anything special that can’t be found at the other french places in PS?
I happen to like the storefront… think they did a good job updating!
I know by now, the trend is this blog is to destroy EVERYTHING that is posted, new construction, restaurants, etc. In this case, I will assumed any of you has never been in this place before and never will so I’m going to save my breath on telling how delicious and comfortable this place is. Later haters!
