As we mentioned yesterday in our Food and Drink Roundup, Moutarde just re-opened, looking new and improved, and showing off a (kind of) new name: Moutarde, Le Bistro de la Rue. They will be cooking simple and affordable French dishes with a creative bar menu. It looked pretty nice to us, with a large stock of baguettes in the windows. Early predictions?

  1. Great Brunch
    Decent Food
    Glad its there

    Brooklyn Couch..

Moutarde=Disnified French, makes me go humm, good point
    your followup of
Bellville=more authentic, makes me think, Brooklyn Couch has no credibility and maybe is a slow adult.

  2. I guess we have different ideas of what “Disney” means then. You say Disney, I say authentic. Moutarde looks just like many bistros in Paris. So your complaints about the decor have more to do with not liking French Bistro decor in general than they do about Moutarde, because as far as looks go, this place is pretty darn authentic.

No clue about the food in the new incarnation, as I prefer to try things out first before I rail against them.

Not sure how my Disney complaint is refused by use of place for said film. Disney = too perfect. Contrast it with the Belleville aesthetic, which I like much more: more raw, imperfect, real…

  4. Always thought Moutarde was a solid bones restaurant. Always have a pretty decent meal here but wouldn’t call it a culinary heaven or anything but always yummy and just hit the right spot for things I wanted. I am willing to check out the newly redone spot. Snappy, count me in for dinner here.

I just don’t know if I will frequent it much because my newly fav. french spot is Le P’tit Paris on PPW but it’s a bit of a shlep from this place so I guess for non-driving folks in the neighborhood, this is a pretty good option for a French Bistro.

  5. What a mess of a thread.

To those who think that Moutarde is “Disney,” the restaurant was the filming location for the French Restaurant at the beginning of the movie Julie and Julia with Meryl Streep.

And clearly you’ve never been to jam packed Pastis in the Meatpacking District if you think this “concept” is outdated.

The amount of negativity (often about things you’ve never even tried) is startling.
