Italian on Bergen Ready to Roll
We’ve gotten several emails about the signage that has gone up on the restaurant at 68 Bergen, the Italian restaurant now called Broken English. Everything looks ready to go, but they weren’t seating people when we went by to snap this photo over the weekend. We’d expect this one to be fully open this week!…

Italian Restaurant for Cobble Hill [Brownstoner]
New Restaurant Coming to Bergen Street [Brownstoner] GMAP
i spoke to the chef yesterday and they opened for brunch on Bastille Day to work out kinks and test out the floor. The restaurant served a limited menu of sandwiches and small plates. They should be fully up and running for dinner on Thursday.

Who said anything about Emily Post???
Bergen between Court and Smith??? What am I missing??? Where??? I almost bought on that block, diagonally across from Vinnie’s Iron Works. There’s no restaurant, except on the Court and Smith corners. Confused. Very confused. Always very confused.
Sooo, anyone actually eat here?

Please read what I wrote. I made no statement about the owner’s intention. I was writing about the condescension on display on this site, and said that the name of the restaurant perfectly captures it.

As a card carrying, 100 percent full-blooded Italian, I lived for 20 years in close proximity to 4 grandparents who, after 40 years in this country, still spoke in “broken english.” I am trying to keep an open mind.
