Streetlevel: A New Bar Coming to Cortelyou
The folks at Ditmas Park’s popular Farm on Adderley restaurant noticed as many folks were lining up for barstools as tables, so they decided what the ever-hippening neighborhood needed was a bar. The folks at Ditmas Park’s popular Farm on Adderley restaurant noticed as many folks were lining up for barstools as tables, so they decided what the ever-hippening neighborhood needed was a bar. Later this month, on the same block, they’ll welcome their new drinking establishment, a hybrid business that will operate as a flower shop during the day—yes you can sit among the roses and sip wine at night, too. Adderley owners Allison and Gary Jonas and their partner Justin Israelson just aren’t sure what to call the place. They’re thinking Monkey’s Wedding—referring to the times when the weather’s both raining and sunny. You guys got any ideas?
Isn’t it great that they uncovered and are saving those windows… imagine a nice storefront not made of aluminum.
Chaka: do you mean Visions or Bar 773? Just curious.
I like the name Victrola. It suggests both a tucked-inside quality, which from what I’ve seen of this bar fits with the sort of lobby-leading-to-inner-room nature of its interior design, and a vague reference to the word Victorian (tho I think the Victrola was introduced in 1906), which pays homage to Victorian Flatbush.
Otherwise they should name it after a flower. Or just, “Barflower.”
The bar will do well, there is demand. That name sucks though, and could potentially sink them if they are crazy enough to go with that.
Stem
Both the flowers and Wine glasses have them.
Since it was conceived of the barstool phenomenon in the restaurant how about “Bar Stool”
No?
Flower shop by day and bar by night?
How about naming it Snowball’s Chance?
Some grim dive on CIA at Cortelyou. They have been there for years and do a steady business and they are actually not so grim.
Chaka –
What bar? The Cornerstone closed ages ago. Are you talking about (bookstore, coffee bar, performance space, instant publishing center) Vox Pop, or some grim dive on CIA?
Gee, I was always told that rain while the sun was shining meant that the devil was beating his wife — that would be an even odder name. But I do enjoy the idea of wine and flowers!
