The improvements coming to Grand Army Plaza, covered here last May, are making their way to Landmarks this month. An advisory report is scheduled to be presented to the LPC next Tuesday. According to an LPC spokesperson: “One proposal is from DOT to extend the traffic islands and one from the Parks Department to relocate the statue of Lincoln from within the park to one of the newly extended traffic islands. The Parks Dept application also includes relocating another statue and the installation of paving and benches.” The commissioners will vote on the proposals but their decision is advisory, not binding. This jives with the plans posted on DOT’s website, which says the enhancements are planned for summer of this year.
DOT Steps Up Grand Army Makeover [Brownstoner]
I’m glad you’re so concerned for me.
Yeah, OK tyburg6. Personally, I see you winding up in jail or on a stretcher at some point in the future. You have a serious road rage issue.
ENY — that’s why I said, “we should be allowed.” Duh. Winning!
I don’t mind driving through GAP, I do it all the time. I like it because it keeps you on your toes and it lets you swear out the window in various languages. It is especially fun if you are on the phone at the same time and whomever is on the other line gets to enjoy the thrill of driving through the video game that is GAP vicariously. It has also, I’ve been told, helped to increase the vocabulary of the person on the line.
I use an earpiece of course.
“we should be allowed baseball bat justice.”
Go ahead. Who’s stopping you? Just be prepared for the consequences.
I agree – Lincoln’s statue should be in Grand Army Plaza as a compaion to the arch, which celebrates the Union Army after all.
Oh come on! Pulleeeeaze!? I’ll buy just a small bat, like a little league one. Or maybe just a little stick.
As an occasional driver, ala Zipcar, I usually avoid the area unless I can’t help it, as I find myself trapped in the wrong lane half the time, especially if I’m not going the one route I’m sure of, around the bend onto Eastern Parkway, since I live in that direction. Anything that anyone can do to make the whole area easier to navigate sounds good to me.
tyburg, listen to me: NO baseball bat justice, OK?
Nope… but I think if the police aren’t going to ticket cars for traffic violations, we should be allowed baseball bat justice.
