Freaky Friday: Greenwood Goth
On the same block as yesterday’s supersized makeover and the now-infamous Tile House sits another facelifted architectural wonder some in the neighborhood have taken to calling the Goth House, perhaps because of the Gothic-style iron work, the castle-like brick work and, yes, the dragons affixed to the facade. Yeah, my only complaint is the Fedders grill. Minard is right. I agree with Bxgrl, I think it’s quirky and fun, and since that block seems to be a hodgepodge of style (or non-style, depending on one’s snark level), why not?
I would have made the upper arched windows a bit longer, to balance it out better, less of a pronounced forehead, as it were.
Benson, I’m sure everyone agrees that the man dying in the street was horrible and inexcusable. The person who looked at him bleeding and then turned away should feel shame and guilt his/her entire life, as should everyone else. It’s an indictment on our society, and we didn’t come out shining here.
That said, what is Brownstoner supposed to do about it, and what does that have to do with some gentle ribbing on architecture on a real estate blog? Had the man not died in the street, you’d still be down on this topic, as you always are. Comparing some silly architecture to his death is not exactly honoring his sacrifice, or the horror of his death, so kindly get off the moral outrage.
Agreed, minard. And I would have to add a fabulous dragon’s head lamp from Toscano besides the door (:
They really did little to the facade and the add ons could be easily removed.
Love. Would happily pack up my Bauhaus and Sisters of Mercy vinyl and move in.
At least this has some element of whimsy and fun. It was not designed in the absolutely cheapest-cheap manner. They should have found gothic ironwork for the Fedders grill.
I’m just going to say I love it. Sorry- there it is. It’s quirky and a sly reference to all the wonderful architectural ornament MM has posted. It’s only added on- it isn’t like the guy redid the whole facade to look like Tara or Notre Dame using foam columns and plastic arches.
Benson, un-twist your panties. But before you do, tie-dye them, would make a cool design.
I look forward to what DitmasSnark has to say about this.
” a) the fact that we let this owner renovate his little castle to his heart’s content”
[sarcasm] But BENSON!! when someone renovates something the way they like it – and it’s not asthetically pleasing to EVERYONE it hurts the property values in that neighborhood! it destroys the fabric of the community and is probably responsible for the death of many cute puppies and kittens [/sarcasm]
Brownstoner has really woken up to greenwood.
This house rules.
The best is the latern affixed to the ‘belfry’
A dragon!!? Awesome.
