A new coffee place has moved into the spot at 162 5th Avenue, the old ‘Love=?’ storefront. It’s called Venticinque and looks pretty nice. (The blog Here’s Park Slope posted some interior photos earlier this week.) Has anyone popped in yet? Think it will be much competition to Gorilla Coffee, which is a few blocks up? GMAP

  1. As this debate shows, people have preferences about coffeeshops based on everything besides the product.

Blue Sky Bakery is also a competitor in the morning at least, as people in transit to the subway want a large iced or a latte to go.

What will make me a goer is if they sell croissants – why more places don’t sell a simple croissant is beyond me.

Croissants are mad delicious! Who disputes that?

  2. Rob – actually a lot of these fancy pants places don’t charge outrageously for a small coffee
    think $1.50/2.00
Stumptown coffee is still my favorite

however if you are like me – I like my coffee with a good amount of milk and lots of sugar
am sure the coffee purists hate me – but whatevs!

  3. i like ozzies iced coffee tho. unfortunately bodegas make nasty iced coffee, the very few that do. im so particiular with my iced coffee, but with hot coffee i feel like it all tastes the same for the most part.

I would say this new place, Cafe Regular Du Nord, Cafe Grumpy and Cafe Martin are the best cups in the neighborhood.

the bodega on 4th avenue off of union street’s coffee is 10x better and 10x cheaper. and they don’t obnoxiously request tips.

  5. BSD: Ozzie’s is always packed because it’s one of the few coffee shops around that have space for people to sit and linger.

Cafe Regular Du Nord is tiny. This place isn’t much bigger. They both have infinitely better coffee than Ozzie’s, but there seems to be people who want to go sit for 3 hours and be on their computer and that is the market Ozzie’s captures.

Have you been to Cafe Martin yet on 5th? He serves amazing coffee.

I would say this new place, Cafe Regular Du Nord, Cafe Grumpy and Cafe Martin are the best cups in the neighborhood.
