A new coffee place has moved into the spot at 162 5th Avenue, the old ‘Love=?’ storefront. It’s called Venticinque and looks pretty nice. (The blog Here’s Park Slope posted some interior photos earlier this week.) Has anyone popped in yet? Think it will be much competition to Gorilla Coffee, which is a few blocks up? GMAP

  1. Finally went to Gorilla last month; was served bitter slop with loads of grounds floating in it, and the slovenly whey-faced wench who slammed it onto the counter said “sometimes it floods over the top–it doesn’t affect the taste” when I pointed out the grounds. “Oh, okay–just makes the texture a little crunchy, eh?” I responded, to a dead-walleye stare. The entire place was occupied with slumping, grumpy laptoppers, and as I returned from a visit to the filthy little restroom, I noted that 6 out of 8 of them in this “warm community atmosphere” were surfing Facebook, all alone. I’ll take a cup of fresh rotgut in a mom-&-pop Bay Ridge diner any day, with a nice chat with the counter gal or guy and a few old regulars, thank ye very much.

  2. Colson Patisserie.

Oh, and there’s an Italian Espresso bar opening next to Smiling Pizza.

I’d say we’re good on the coffee front in PS.

P.S. This Venticinque is Italian owned as well…

  3. Here’s my informal list of Park Slope coffee shops:

    Gorilla
    Ventincinque
    Cafe Regular Du Nord
    Cafe Regular
    Ozzie’s (7th)
    Ozzie’s (5th)

And a host of others like Naidres, Blue Sky, Colson, Almondine, Sweet Melissa, Cousin John’s, Ladybird Bakery, Trois Pommes, etc which also serve coffee….
