Earlier this week we found out about one bar coming to 3rd Avenue, and now there’s word of another that’s in the works eight blocks south. There’s been a lot of renovation activity at 550 3rd Avenue, on the corner of 14th Street, and building permits indicate food and booze are in the offing. Someone on the site told us the space would be a “disco club,” but after digging around DOB permits it seems like the plans may be a little more tame. This one filed back in 2010 was approved to convert the commercial building into an eating and drinking establishment. Then a place of assembly permit for “Louie’s Bar” was disapproved this month. Despite the setback, construction’s obviously moving along, and the new windows put in are looking good. GMAP DOB

  1. “What is a disco club?”

See the *disco dance* scene in the opening minutes of Borat. That is your typical disco club. I believe the Halkias’s from Grand Prospect Hall will be hosting.. 🙂

  2. “Just a guess, but wouldn’t that be a place which required a cabaret license? I think there are some capacity restrictions when you fall in that category, too.”

good question – do any of the bars in brooklyn that have DJ dance parties on the weekends have cabaret licenses?
