jones-truck-032310.jpgNow that the brouhaha over her windows is dying down (the seven new windows are installed and by all accounts they look just fine), it’s time for the next stage of Norah Jones’ townhouse renovation: the backyard swimming pool. Back in January, a New York Post article had a brief reference to the fact that the famous singer was planning to build a pool, but provided no details; DOB filings also confirm that a pool is in the works, as does this pool installation truck parked on her block. Now we’ve got some color on the situation, courtesy of a tipster: If the intelligence is correct, and it sounds like it comes from a good source, we’re talking about a 8-by-30-foot in-ground pool with a hydraulic system that enables the pool to be covered and used as a terrace at the push of a button. This could be the start of a trend!

  1. I thought that Norah didn’t have a lot to do with her dad, and anyway I wouldn’t think Ravi has that kind of money either. I suppose he might have a piece of the Concert for Bangladesh publishing, but I think all that goes to Geo. Harrison Foundation.

  2. From http://bk.ly/jXX it seems that the retractable cover might cost more than the pool itself:

“talked with a pool rep about load-bearing retractable floors and he mentioned that he has a relation with an outfit that does them but has never done one because of the cost. I asked if the outfit was the Wut Group and that rang a bell for him and he confirmed it was. I asked him what the price range was and he mentioned a range of $150K-$250K “

  3. Putting in a pool isn’t obscenely expensive in the context of what she probably spent to renovate her home.

It’s not like it’s going to cost her a million dollars or anything close to that to have it put in.

  4. quote:
love! makes you wonder how money she has? Like when Lenny Kravitz was looking at $50mm houses back in the day. I mean, I know you have money, but this muc money?!

um, she’s an uber trustafarian. not to say she hasnt made her own money from her own music, but coupled with her famous dad’s money, you know.. that’s a lot of cash.. and ew, i feel so tacky discussing other peoples money right now. sorry

  5. before cobble hill/CG was gentrified to this degree, there were plenty of above ground pools. i looked there in the mid-’90’s and lots of italian families had them. one guy had a covered deck with a lazy boy and a TV and then the above ground pool out beyond it. the exterior of the place was standard brownstone, but the inside was middle class suburbia which was the case with tons of the places that i saw in CH/CG at that time.
