Last week Curbed noted a dramatic saga unfolding on the Brooklynian Boards, about a man who was tearing down tree branches around Bedford and Classon Avenues. The thread began in April, and while we figured it would have calmed down by now, it lives on. Apparently he ripped through Underhill Avenue this morning. Anyone have a problem like this?

  1. “but ripping a branch off a tree is NOT illegal in any way.”

It’s vandalism and property destruction. No different than damaging light poles, mailboxes, or car mirrors.

It’s an offense against an entire neighborhood’s quality of life.

  2. shoot to kill um what!? yeah this DOES sound like vandalism which is horrible, especially if they are ripping out entire saplings.. but ripping a branch off a tree is NOT illegal in any way.

maybe it’s Big Bird building a new nest!?

  3. I actually came across a guy pulling on a branch on Gates between Classon and Franklin a couple of days ago (he didn’t manage to actually pull it off). Lost in my own thoughts, I didn’t think much of it until I noticed several other branches in the neighborhood that had been ripped off of trees.

I don’t think he was part of a text mob. I’d go with a little unbalanced.

  4. Huh. The Boerum Hill boards are all abuzz about someone tearing off the lower branches of trees along 3rd Avenue. Same person? Some kind of text mob?

    Pointless and long-lasting destruction.

  5. FYI, i was just kidding, i dont snap branches off trees.. just find them on the ground and in the park. this story does make me lol tho because of how serious some people are taking it. “take them into custody” :-/ okaaaaay
