Last week Curbed noted a dramatic saga unfolding on the Brooklynian Boards, about a man who was tearing down tree branches around Bedford and Classon Avenues. The thread began in April, and while we figured it would have calmed down by now, it lives on. Apparently he ripped through Underhill Avenue this morning. Anyone have a problem like this?

  1. Hey GrandArmy – I don’t think your doorman was right. He took out two trees on Vanderbilt between Park Place and Sterling Place last night. So, if he was taken into custody it was only for a short period.

So, we have two wounded trees on our block. Someone earlier posted that a protectant should be painted on? Is that something we can do or should we to wait for the Parks department to do it? We called 311 and notified them that the trees have been damaged…the report was sent to Parks…what happens after that I don’t know.

  2. According to my door man, today someone was ripping branches off trees on Eastern Parkway between Washington and Underhill and was taken into custody by the police. The vandal attacked at least five trees causing a lot of damage.

  3. Someone ripped limbs off the trees in front of my house and my neighbor’s house sometime Sunday night or early Monday morning on Classon. We were so angry to find a big, luscious tree limb on the sidewalk. Sanitation refused to take it during collection this morning, not to mention neglecting to pick up our recycling.

I wonder what he has against trees?

  4. Looks like someone has some anger issues.

There is an old fart who lives on 17th street who “prunes” the street trees as well as privately owned trees/shrubs around the south slope. Been doing it for years. He likes to break off the new growth in the spring. Dendrophobia is the irrational fear of trees.

  5. If someone wants to cut mongo free from his leash, to commit random acts of vandalism, then who are we to judge? This sounds very anarchy like, stick it to the man! If a loose branch or diseased limb falls and kills me, or someone I love, it would be so worth it, I’d give your life to keep brooklyn edgy. If you can’t stand the heat then move back to middle america, posers. Fight the power!

  6. There was a mentally ill-looking guy a couple of years ago who ripped a very large branch off the beautiful tree in front of my Manhattan apartment a couple of years ago. It was a big branch and he had to use all of his weight to tear it off. It really angered me. Luckily, I wasn’t on the street — I was inside looking out my second floor window. If I had been on the street, I may have ended up in jail for assault.
