  1. the fence in front of a house IS NOT city property. it belongs to the homeowner! just like the sidewalk, so when you trip, it is our insurance that has to pay for it. bikes are fantastic, just leave them at a bike rack or in your little rental apartment. until you own a house, then please just be quiet and park it where it belongs. that goes for motorcycles too.

  2. “The bicycle has a legal right to be parked on the sidewalk”

Uh, really? Are you sure? That there is a tree guard. For trees. It’s not intended for locking up bikes. The city does provide places for bikes. But a tree guard is not such a place.

Bikes are supposed to be brought into apartments, foyers or basements for storage. If that’s not convenient for you too bad.

  3. That is city property, not the homeowner’s. Sure, it is an annoying place to park a bike. Street signs are better. But it’s not like there are lots of options.

Oh, and you want me to bring by bike indoors? Why don’t you bring your car indoors?

  4. I think many are missing the point, the sidewalk is under the jurisdiction of the Department of Traffic. It is illegal to store anything on the sidewalk. If your garbage can is on the sidewalk on a day that is not a trash pickup day, you are liable for a citation. Parking, chaining, storing anything on the sidewalk is an obstruction of traffic.

  5. 5:23 get off me, play your position.

A true NY cyclist or New Yorker would take pride and know better than to leave his precious bike chained to someone else property. After the first note he or she would move it in fear of vandals.

A hipster would spend 130 bucks on the bike at flea market, then leave it chained to someone else’s fence in the middle of snow storm with a key food bag on the seat.

  6. You can be sure the idiot who posted this note on the bike isn’t asking motorists to park their cars in front of their own houses. What is the problem here? I’m going down to S. Portland to throw a rock through this guy’s window tonight.

  7. “Slash the tires, bash the frame, contact the local crackhead, put screws in the seat aimed up, put dog shit on the peddels, jam a penny in the bike chain, clip the breaks, spray paint the frame, pull out the spokes.”

Get you ass kicked when the owner catches you vandalizing his bike….
