Right alongside the news that funding for the Greenpoint Hospital is in contention, Nathan Kensinger published a photo essay exploring the site. Built in 1914, the seven towers of the hospital are now being used as apartments, a homeless shelter, and community space. The Nurses Quarters (which Kensinger photographed) was given to TNS Development Group, who recently asked for $3.9 million from Markowitz, which he refused. Meanwhile, the local non-profit group Greenpoint Renaissance Enterprise Corporation are suing in hopes to gain control over the site. Despite complications behind the development, the photographs are a haunting look into the abandoned quarters.
