To make navigating this supersized Mayberry manageable, we planned day trips around three of our favorite areas — Greenpoint and Williamsburg; Atlantic Avenue, Carroll Gardens, and Red Hook; and Prospect Park and Park Slope (highlighted on map) — then homed in on the best spots to shop, eat, and explore.” Brooklyn as a “supersized Mayberry”? OK.

You guys are ridiculous. You are taking this article way too seriously. Also it’s a great list of Brooklyn’s best businesses. The author lives in Brooklyn.
Wow — I’m surprised at all the hate here, even for this blog. I think you’re all missing the real point of the article, which in fact highlights what most of us love about living in Brooklyn: that you can live in real neighborhoods, with local merchants who care about what they sell and know their customers as neighbors, while still living in the art, theater, media, finance, etc. capital of the United States.
yeah 11217 – that doesn’t sound unlike many of my visits. can’t defend it and not lose my cred!
if you wanna see bad service check out Roberta’s! such a shitshow (but insanely fun, always)
“You’ve got about as much culture as a parking meter.”
You mean porn, beer, cigs and being nasty isn’t your idea of culture, ENY??? For SHAME!
“me too – what did you get?”
The homemade chorizo sandwich (which I’ve had before). It was not only way too tough this time (and bland), but the waiter we had was so effing rude and slow, I’ve just had it with that place. I don’t remember a place in recent memory with such terrible service.
My dining companion had the burger and he said he much preferred the one we had at Thistle Hill Tavern last week.
lol what bragging rights? it’s not like i moved here and tried to drag nj culture along with me like these fools do!
that’s the point!

“Went to Diner this past weekend and I thought it was very very average. Not giving them any more of my money…”
me too – what did you get?
> My favorite brunch place these days is James
Thanks for reminding me, I need to go back there.
“seriously one of the most unappetizing things i’ve ever put in my mouth” — considering what has been in there, that really must have been disgusting.
