Bushwick BK brings us the “Ocean Blue Residence,” a new development in Bushwick renting units from $1,000 to $3,000. Despite the checkerboard exterior – which the developer deemed a “piece of art” – the theme is carried on with blue walls, blue lights, and murals on every floor of blue oceans and skies. Some neighbors like it, others don’t, but the once-run down and abandoned building has become a neighborhood attraction. The developer plans to continue the checkerboard theme on another building at Greene and Wyckoff. Next color scheme: lavender.

  1. Interesting, if kind of ugly, but it shows a sense of humor. Still, I’ll take my “old dark brownstone…full of dusty antiques” over this any day 🙂

  2. ah okay – i thought you had your bushwicks confused and were doing your typical n brooklyn smackdown

i think the facade rules – theres a few wacky renos of bldgs in greenpoint and williamsburg that are fun.

how many of you have actually been out to this part of bushwick (besides mopar) ?

  3. My point is that while it’s rather ugly, it’s not like this is Brooklyn Heights or something.

ANYTHING built on these empty lots are typically an improvement over what was there.

  4. Lovely neighborhood indeed.
