Bushwick BK brings us the “Ocean Blue Residence,” a new development in Bushwick renting units from $1,000 to $3,000. Despite the checkerboard exterior – which the developer deemed a “piece of art” – the theme is carried on with blue walls, blue lights, and murals on every floor of blue oceans and skies. Some neighbors like it, others don’t, but the once-run down and abandoned building has become a neighborhood attraction. The developer plans to continue the checkerboard theme on another building at Greene and Wyckoff. Next color scheme: lavender.

I like the idea, but the execution feels a little bit off.
Maybe the owner should lock in a budget and take submissions from local artists on the next exterior design. The neighborhood becomes invested…hopefully the quality goes up, etc.
Or perhaps they could get HGTV to pay for everything.
Or perhaps just endless, infinite checkerization…

Do the tenants have to keep the paint job in the apartments. I wouldn’t think many people want a beach scene in their living room….
but then people living in that disgusting neighborhood, i doubt very much have have house beautiful……

it’s perfect for when youre stumbling home at 4am, drunk, in the middle of the ghetto. much easier to find your apartment.
but it just screams LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME! yeah, good luck living there, youre gonna get the shit kicked out of you and your crap stolen, but then again i feel like the types of people who are moving there wear that as some badge of honor to tweet about back home to their friends and family on the hog farm.

Good for the owners for cleaning it up. It looks very nice except for the HIDEOUS exterior paint job. Hopefully the $3,000 apartment is for a triplex with five bedrooms.
